In Inuit Mythology, animism is a central theme—the belief that Non-living things and natural elements have souls or spirits. Unlike other ancient civilizations, the idea of a single all-powerful god that controls all things is not common among the ancient Inuit people. Instead, different parts of the environment are believed to be influenced by different deities.

The ancient Inuit lived in a cold and dangerous environment, so their mythological stories were primarily cautionary tales intended to guide and protect them.
